FOOTBALL POST MATCH REPORT

Four-goal Shajani turn on the style on foreign soil

15/09/21 Midway, Kentucky

Unaiz Shajani was in scintillating form when he scored four goals to propel Midway University (Kentucky) men’s soccer team to a 7-1 thrashing of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) at the latter’s home venue at Schueler Field in Cincinnati on Saturday evening.

The seven goals on Saturday evening are the most goals scored in a single game for Midway since their 8-0 mauling of Pikeville of Kentucky and earned the visitors their first victory of the season after their opener 1-1 with Spalding on Thursday (Sept. 9).

Daniel Caldwell had opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Kenyan Star Field Football Academy graduate joined in the goal rush to a devastating effect. Shajani was on the mark twice before the break to give his team 3-1 half time lead.

For the first one, he pressed the centre half and dispossessed him before round the keeper and slotting in an empty net, before out-sprinting the right back and placing an angled shot to the bottom left corner.

In the second period, the prolific goal scorer then added a third either side of Florene Twahirwa and Chukwuma Soronnadi strikes before completing the rout 10 minutes from full time.

Midway turned the ball over and Shajani was fed through the right wing where he sprinted before unleashing a rasping shot to the roof of the net and then rounded his scoring exploits with a shot from inside the area.

Midway is now scheduled to return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 14) when they host Pikeville in Kentucky for a 3:30pm kick off.
